Hibernation   Next Song | | Solo Recordings |
Lui Collins, July 3,1989

I come from the forest
To the mountain cave
Leave behind my brothers
Solace I would have
        This is my protection
        From the winter cold
        Always turning inward
        Separate and alone.

All shuts down for the winter
Leave all life behind
Stuff my body full and numb
Quieting my mind
        This is my protection
        From the winter cold
        Always turning inward
        Separate and alone.

Slowing down my rhythms
Scarce can feel a thing
Moving through the motions
Sleeping till the spring
        This is my protection
        From the winter cold
        Always turning inward
        Separate and alone.

Spring will come to the mountain
Sun will melt the snows
Ice breaks loose in a torrent
Water rushing down
        I leave my protection
        Rousing from my sleep
        Feel the waters moving
        Draws me from the deep.

Waken from my dreaming
Drawn from the dark to the sun
Longing for my brothers
And to stretch my limbs and run
        This shall be my safety
        Bonding with my own
        Reaching to the heavens
        Drawing the Godlight down.

Invocation   Next Song | | Top | | Solo Recordings |
Lui Collins, 1985

I am a river
You've dammed me
My world flows politely, so shallow
My limits are set and predictable
I can do you no harm

I won't overflow for you've harnessed my waters
You ration them out at your will
You've compromised me - for my own good, you say -
My power diverted to your corrupt ends

And long have I forgotten the passion of my youth
The purpose in my wanderings before you broke my will

Yet I've deeps you've long overlooked
And the anger sequestered is rising
I claim my power for my own
At last confront your rule

I am a river
My floodwaters rising in anger
I've broken your dams
False progress falls to unleashed force
The reclaiming has begun.

Move to the Now   Next Song | | Top | | Solo Recordings |
Lui Collins, 1986

You have been a seeker, you have walked alone
You have borne a message, a truth to carry on
You have been a healer many years ago
You, who've been so many things now must let it go

And move to the now, move to the now
You who have created it, move to the now.

Dark colors draw you, you cannot reach the light
You put it in a corner past a dark and heavy line
Then you fold the paper over, for you dare not see it now
My heart cries, "Joy awaits you! Won't you move to the now?"

Move to the now, move to the now
You who have created it, move to the now.

You shall be a seeker, you shall walk alone
You shall bear a message, a truth to carry on
You are a healer, that you are right now
All the world awaits you, won't you move to the now?

Move to the now, move to the now
You who have created it, move to the now.

Move to the now, move to the now
All the world awaits you, won't you move to the now?

The Holy Instant   Next Song | | Top | | Solo Recordings |
Lui Collins, July 26, 1989

Silence falls between us
One holy instant of grace
I leave behind my misperceptions
And so begins the dance of Love.

So quick I've been to see my failings in others
My anger rising, growing into rage.
They mirror me so perfectly, I grew confused
And thought 'twas them, yet now see I have stood in my own way.

What fear is this in me that blocks expression of myself?
And why do I deny myself what truly brings me joy?
An easel stands before me on which I draw my life
The colors and the shapes and shades are none but mine to choose.

I choose to open wide my hands there to receive Your Love
And from my center, circling, filled, the Light is passed along.
So open, I receive, I give, I know it is the same.
And I am One
and still,
remembering,
as when dawn began.

Silence falls between us
One holy instant of grace
I leave behind my misperceptions
And so begins the dance of Love.

Blessed   Next Song | | Top | | Solo Recordings |
Lui Collins, August 4, 1988

You have given me the melody as it poured forth from my heart
You have blessed me with the meter as it beat through my veins
As I walk with You and listen, Your words come to me
Oh blessed are we this day.

Chor: Hallelujah, Hallelujah
        Hallelujah, Hallelujah
        Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Oh blessed are we this day.

Rain so gently falls to soak the earth, life bursts forth from the seed
Roots go stretching down to draw their strength from the soil
Upward grows the plant always reaching toward the the hot, beating sun
Oh blessed are we this day.

Chor.

You grace us with Your wisdom, love bursts forth from our heart
We plant our feet upon the earth to draw our strength
Open wide our arms reaching toward the sky, we're flooded with light
Oh blessed are we this day.

Chor.

May we walk within Your melody as it pours forth from our hearts
May we step within the meter as it beats through our veins
Open wide our ears and listening, hear Your words spoken clearly
Blessed are we this day.

Chor.

Mermaid's Lullabye   Next Song | | Top | | Solo Recordings |
lyrics by Jane Yolen, music by Lui Collins

Hush, foam mocker,
Sleep, wave maker,
Close your eyes and dream,
Tide breaker.

Waves will rock you,
Whales will sing you,
Starfish a night-light
Will bring you.

Hush, deep diver,
Shush, shell keeper,
Be your finny mother's
Sleeper.

God Bless the Children   Next Song | | Top | | Solo Recordings |
Lui Collins, January 4, 1989

Late October. The memory comes back strong
I am a child alone.
Bruised in spirit and body
And left alone to heal as best I can.

I remember. Wide open heart and eyes,
The trust of innocence.
Whole in spirit and body
And growing straight and tall as a sapling tree.

Winds of emotion, erosion in passing time.
The roots lay exposed now.
Abuse, persistent and subtle,
Wears away the will to withstand the crippling storm.

God bless the children,
Abused or neglected,
Victims of incest with memories buried, from terror denied.
God bless the children.
Help us to heal our wounds,
To learn to be gentle with ourselves.

I had a dream. An elevator out of control.
I plunge from the twentieth floor.
I have a choice.
I open the door.
I walk the stairs.
I own my Power.
I will. I am. I will. I am.

Late October. The memory comes back strong.
I am a child alone.
Bruised in spirit and body
And left alone to heal as best I can.
I can.
I will. I am. I will. I am. Thy will. I am.

Holy Child   Next Song | | Top | | Solo Recordings |
Lui Collins, November 2, 1989

Lonely little child
Come to my breast
Milk of kindness
Feed your emptiness.
Rocking tenderly
Smooth your troubled brow
Breathe peace
Into your wounded heart.

Grown up far too soon
Free the playful child
Fill the sad cold silences
With joyous sound.
Nourish with color
The bruised and aching heart
Mind at peace, the child breaks free
To dance for joy.

Wild bird in captivity
Sing to me.
Creativity
Now soars free.
Earth beneath your feet
Drink in the air
God in thee
Majesty
Holy be.

God in thee
Majesty
Holy be.

Flicker of Light   Next Song | | Top | | Solo Recordings |
Lui Collins, May 2, 1990

Flicker of light
Hours till the morning
Flicker of light
Hold me for now.

Yazu stood in the cold dark night
Kept his eye on the candle bright
        Far across the city
        Gave him strength to stand

Flicker of light
Hours till the morning
Flicker of light
Hold me for now.

Step into the cold dark night
Keep my eye on the bright bright light
        Ever close within me
        Give me strength to stand.

The light is dancing round us
        Angels dancing, singing
        God is with us now
        Flicker of light sustains.

Joining hands in the cold dark night
        Searching for the candle bright
        Burning deep within us
        Give us strength to stand.

Circling hands in the cold dark night
        Yearning for the candle bright
        God Who art within us
        Give us strength to stand.

Flicker of light
Hours till the morning
Flicker of light
Hold me for now.

Moondancer   | Top | | Solo Recordings |
Lui Collins

Moondancer, moondancer, I'll be a moondancer
Glide as I waltz on my clumsy old feet
Once I was conscious of every false step
Now I dance in the moonlight with no one to see.

I have a friend who was awkward and shy
He was not like the others but he didn't know why
When all that he wanted was just to be cool
He tried playing the hero, he'd just play the fool.

Moondancer, moondancer, now he's a moondancer
Glides as he waltzes on clumsy old feet
Once he was conscious of every false step
Now he dances in moonlight with no one to see.

My little girl is so lovely and free
As ease with her body, she's nothing like me
No one has taught her to be someone else
At this tender age she takes joy in herself.

Moondancer, moondancer, she is a moondancer
Glides as she waltzes on graceful young feet
She's never been conscious nor watched every step
So she dances in moonlight with no one to see.

My little son is the joy of my days
A gift come unto me to lighten my way
Though he cannot walk, he has led me to You
For though body is matter, the spirit is Truth.

Moondancer, moondancer, he is a moondancer
Glides as he waltzes on straight and strong feet
Knowing no limits, his body's set free
To dance in the moonlight with no one to see.

Moondancer, moondancer, let us be moondancers
Glide as we waltz on our graceful old feet
Accepting no limits, we set ourselves free
To dance in the moonlight with no one to see
Let us dance in the moonlight with no one to see.
